Ballarat Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine

Allied Health Referrals

Our vision is to run a multidisciplinary clinic with Physiotherapists of our district, Sports Medicine Physician, and Orthopaedic Surgeons. To get to the final model will take time, but as a starting point, we have asked a few senior local Physiotherapists to test the water.  Patients requiring ongoing physiotherapy support with be seen in their own physiotherapists rooms, although multidisciplinary meetings at Ballarat OSM will also be able to be scheduled.

It is possible for Physiotherapists to book their patient directly into our rooms.
If there is a GP referral for the patient, the Medicare rebates are higher, and the patient can be seen directly by a surgeon.  Otherwise, Dr Greg Harris, Sports Medicine Physician will need to see the patient first.  The patient’s GP will be approached for input where required, and BallaratOSM will be embracing My Health Record as it becomes a useful resource.

We do also see uninsured patients, but recommend referral to Ballarat Health Services if the patient is seeking free treatment.  Patients without insurance will be contacted where possible prior to their appointment to ensure they are familiar with the fees, especially if surgery is required.
